public announcement
so i held off on mentioning this publically (though some people have heard by now.) basically, for obvious reasons, i didn't want to put this out there till everyone at my work was informed.

at any rate...

this is my last week at gamesradar. next monday, i will begin a new job at gamasutra as the features editor.

for those who are not familiar with the site, gamasutra is run alongside its sister publication game developer magazine as a resource for game developers. that's its intended audience. as i find myself getting more interested in the creative process behind games (and increasingly disinterested in the product cycle of games -- unveil/preview/review/forget) it seems like a good match to me. i'm eager to give it a shot, and more than a little burnt out on the plain-vanilla game journalism deal.

so, you'll still be seeing me around on the web, though maybe not where you expected.

Nice! If I were to get back into game journalism that's what I would want to do as well. Sounds like a good fit.

Gamasutra will only be made more awesome with your contribution.

Hopefully you make it out to Japan just as often and Brandon S. doesn't turn you emo. :)

Yeah, I do three of the columns and whatever other work Simon throws at me. The last features editor got me started there, actually.

I will say that the fire-and-forget model of journalism seems prevalent on either side of the consumer/industry divide, but it is nice to have the freedom to talk process (and business, even -- I've found myself shockingly actually starting to look forward to earnings/investor calls [!?]) rather than being restricted to framerates and how-many-different-guns-are-there, as most other online/print outlets seem to enjoy.

Either way, welcome aboard, sir.

you have a fine point or two in there. i can't really find myself eager to hear about earnings, but at the same time, i take that point. it's like, earnings call or turok? 50/50 really in my book. if it's, say, nintendo's earnings, i'd take the earnings, no doubt.

anyway, thanks. i'll be in touch with you more soon, of course, too.

I don't know whether to be happy or sad.

For you this is obviously a great move, so congratulations.

I can't tell you that I am not a bit sad for GamesRadar, though, as you brought me along there and for that I owe you a million thanks. Your contributions there will be sorely missed.

Looking forward to the Gama work, though!
