battlestar galactica season three
i am watching BSG3 now. that show is like delicious candy. in every sense of the word.

it has no nutritional content, and it doesn't stay with you, but it's compulsively delicious.

I've only seen season 1 but I picked up Seasons 2.0 and 2.5...gotta watch them sometime. My only complaint with the show is how the title sequence is a bunch of preview/spoiler footage of the episode you're about to watch. I really, really do not like that. :(

Yeah. I skip that part, closing my eyes or fast-forwarding.

Disagree with the nutritional thing. It brings up lots of issues that have clear parallels to the real world. I don't feel like typing much to defend that tho, hehe.

I'll be curious what you think of S3 overall. Holding my thoughts till you watch it.

i guess... i mean, i can see that, but i'm just bored of the fact that nothing of consequence ever happens. the show pushes the reset button on characters and situations whenever it decides to, and makes a lot of drama and vitriol about stuff for awhile but then after a little bit that stuff has faded away. i'm not going to change my mind on this one after 3.3 seasons or whatever.

basically i really enjoy it while i'm watching it and then don't even begin to think about or consider it when i'm not. in fact i never even get a desire to watch it when i'm not. i just buy it, and then when something happens like a trip or whatever, i go "oh hey!" and throw a DVD of it in my bag and then i'm watching it again. i dunno. it's strangely ineffective to me, despite the fact that i find it compulsively entertaining during the actual watching process.

it's just super television-y to me.

i don't remember which season is which, heh.

and i'd also have to disagree with the nutritional content. it's delicious commentary on the modern state of the politics of fear and neverending war.

What 222b and taumeson said - it's a reasonably good allegory for current events at many points - and also, Edward James Olmos is fucking JAM-PACKED with vitamins and minerals. What an actor. With him, it's one of the best shows on TV. Without him, I doubt it would be worth watching.

really? i mean, he's good in his role or whatever but his character isn't even that interesting or original. if he had plastic surgery would you feel the same way? =P

i mean i guess to me actors' performances aren't nutritional content. actors are, except in the most specific of cases, icing to me. amazing acting makes great storytelling compelling but it isn't something i can latch onto. obviously it might be different for you.

i'm talking about believable characters, situations that don't get reset after 3 episodes (lee's fat! now he's thin! that was fun! for just one of many examples)...

dunno, none of the characters connect with me much at all. i like watching their antics, and find their interactions super interesting, but the only one i think i even come close to caring about is laura roslin. my favorite interactions are probably still caprica-six-in-gaius'-head and gaius-in-gaius'-head.

again, i still think it's compelling and generally well-written and well-acted from an entertainment standpoint, but i guess i just feel like it's in the same league as any number of things i also watch or like and not special. i guess i wouldn't've written this blog post if i didn't feel like people think it's more than it is. which is probably a shitty motivation.
