pondering this keyboard

it has good ratings and sounds like it's not plastic mush like most modern keyboards. then i can dump this belkin one in the goodwill pile (original price: $15)

i expect if i go to best buy or fry's or office depot they'll just have windows-marked keyboards. IT IS A MYSTERIOUS

this is all i am going to be thinking about for a little while obviously. blah blah blah blah blah

Pay maximum available funds for a keyboard, and you will rarely be disappointed in the long run. I like the feel of the Apple keyboards, these crazy thin things, but there's not a lot of depth in the keypress.

My favorites are "clicky" keyboards, generally referred to as Model M keyboards. These have a dramatically tactile feedback that is just wonderful. Around the era of the Macintosh II, Apple emulated this mechanism; those keyboards were heavy but very sturdy and responsive. Anymore they're made by high-end specialty companies, while the original Model Ms are apparently akin to (functioning) collectors items. Here's one:

But before deciding, search for "clicky keyboard mac" and shop around.

yeah. i actually had the same model M keyboard going from the mid 90s until this weekend, when i packed up my dell. =)

i went with the macally keyboard. at $40 MSRP it's more expensive than most keyboards, it had great reviews, and it's... a mac keyboard. most expensive keyboards these days seem to be so because they have Crazy Multimedia Options like knobs and buttons and crap on them. conversely, there are some nigh-featureless keyboards with sexy design on the mac. i think you can figure out why that might be.

i'll have to think of the tactile pro, because i'd love that again, but the white mac one is "sold out and discontinued" and all they have is "black for PC and mac". part of the issue with me ordering a keyboard is i want a MAC keyboard with MAC buttons. the windows key and alt are backwards of the alt/option setup on mac. it's so irritating.
